CAD2CD Version 5

Archive & Distribute Your AutoCAD Drawings on Recordable CDs

CAD2CD is an AutoCAD module sold as an add-on to Alchemy Gold/Pro, the award winning CD-R data storage management software. With the CAD2CD module added, Alchemy indexes DWG and DXF files, attributes, text and related project data, copies the files to CD-R, and completely manages file retrieval, viewing and printing. The CDs can also be viewed by anyone else with a Windows PC CD-ROM drive. CAD2CD is made by IMR, the leader in CD-R data storage and distribution software with the 2CD family of solutions.

  • Replace other expensive, unreliable or inefficient storage and distribution methods: paper, floppies, file cabinets, tapes, etc. CDs can store 650 MB of data or 15,000 scanned pages or 450 floppies.
  • Mail your AutoCAD project files on CD to fellow workers or clients. They won’t need any other software to search, view, copy, print or plot files. Just a CD-ROM drive.
  • Go into the field with complete project data on CD, using a notebook PC with CD-ROM.
  • Find drawings in seconds, compared to the slow way you’ve been retrieving files.
  • Find data that’s buried in drawings without running AutoCAD or WorkCenter.
  • Give everyone on your LAN access to all the archived project data.
  • Manage huge numbers of drawings efficiently and easily with CAD2CD, instead of using expensive client/server software.

New in CAD2CD Version 5

  • Portable viewer for DWG and DXF files. Works with AutoCAD R14 and earlier.
  • Indexes text in nested blocks.
  • Automatically indexes the data in a drawing: attributes, tags, values, text, and blocks.
  • Works with IMR’s Alchemy, an integrated document archival system for CD-R that also manages other PC file formats and data.
  • Attach related project data to a drawing.
  • Viewers and a Windows retrieval program can also be copied to CD, so others can retrieve and view the drawings.
  • Search for data contained in drawings; the data is marked in the viewer for fast and easy location.
  • Supports 3D drawings and Xrefs.
  • Completely integrated CD Recording works with most CD writers.
  • CDs can be read from any CD-ROM drive on a Windows PC, or accessed from a Netware or NT file server.
  1. Drag and drop AutoCAD DWG or DXF files from Windows Explorer or File Manager into the Alchemy CD contents window. Supports drawings made in AutoCAD R14 and earlier.
  2. Create your own customized Profile Cards to store project-related data that is not contained within the drawing. Profile cards can store data from other sources, file information and any combination of custom data fields you wish to add.
  3. If you have any other document files, such as Word, Excel, images etc., you would like to store with a drawing, simply drag and drop them onto the drawing filename to create a compound document. When you search for one of those files, you will also find the others.
  4. Click on the Gold CD in Alchemy, and the drawings and profile cards are automatically indexed, then written to a recordable CD. There is no need to use a separate "premastering" software program.
  5. You can repeat steps 1 through 4 as often as you need. Alchemy manages the CD-R drive, writing many times to one CD and even spanning data across to a new CD. You will never run out of disc space.
  6. There is an option to write the Alchemy Search program and the CAD2CD Viewer to the CD. The CD can then be read in another CD-ROM drive installed on a Windows PC.
  7. With an Alchemy Gold or Pro license, the Alchemy Search program can be installed on any Windows client attached to a CD-ROM server. Users can then browse, search, view, copy and print drawings from the CD.
  8. When you search for data embedded in a drawing, the location of that data is marked in the viewer. It is very easy to quickly locate the data, even in a very complex drawing with many layers.
